Category: Being Beautiful and Unloved
Women are often raised and admired for their attractiveness to the exclusion of intellect, creativity, sensitivity, and other inner qualities. Their beauty then becomes a liability as they search for someone who loves them “for whom they are” as opposed to how they look. As men seek attractive women, the women themselves can become suspect of their motives; are they admired just for their beauty versus their brains? Lovelessness among handsome women seems paradoxical; after all, who would not fall in love with someone stunning in appearance? However, some lovely women cannot help feeling that if they were not pretty, they would not be loved. Thus, the love that comes their way can be perceived as quite conditional.
