Category: Romantic vs. Marital Love
Romantic love is the stuff of movies and operas when two lovers blissfully come together without awareness of the consequences of their union. They may be underage, or from different socioeconomic circumstances, or their love may occur during a time of war. Their love may be forbidden by their parents or the culture in which they live. Love is idealized and there is little awareness of the future or its difficulties. In contrast, marital love entails a vision of financial and social complexities and is predicated on compromise and devotion. A frequent problem that arises is when marital love and romantic love become confused in the minds of a couple. Future posts will examine the differences between these two types of love.
